How to prepare product photos for your shop

Good product photos sell more, and you don't need a studio to get them. With a phone camera and a few free tools, you can turn a plain snapshot into a clean, professional listing photo. Here's the simple workflow.

Start with a good shot

Use natural light near a window, keep the product in focus, and shoot against a simple background. Good lighting and sharp focus matter far more than an expensive camera — a modern phone is plenty. Take a few angles so you have options.

Remove the background

A clean, consistent background makes a shop look professional and lets the product stand out. Removing the background gives you a transparent cut-out you can drop onto white or a branded colour. This is the single biggest upgrade to most product photos.

Resize and add a watermark

Resize each photo to the dimensions your marketplace recommends so nothing gets cropped. If you want to protect your images from being reused, add a subtle watermark with your shop name. Then compress the final files so your listings load quickly.
